One of the nation's highest civilian honors, the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are awarded in three different categories. Art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, and other disciplines are among the fields of endeavor in which the Awards are granted. "Padma Bhushan" is given for exceptionally distinguished service of the highest grade, "Padma Shri" for outstanding service in any field, and "Padma Vibhushan" for extraordinary and distinguished service. Each year, Republic Day is the day on which the honors are announced.
About the Padma Awards:
The Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are three of the nation's highest civilian honors.
Established in 1954, the Awards are annually announced in conjunction with Republic Day.
The goal of the award is to honor "work of distinction," and it is granted for outstanding and noteworthy contributions to any subject or discipline, including social work, sports, medicine, literature, art, and education.
Eligibility for nomination: The Awards are open to all individuals, regardless of their race, profession, status, or sexual orientation.
Except for doctors and scientists, government employees, including those employed by PSUs, are not qualified to receive Padma Awards.
Recipients get a Sanad (certificate) and Medallion; a tiny version of the main medal is given to them separately; these awards come with no financial funding.
Who selects the victor?
Every year, the Prime Minister forms the Padma Awards Committee, which considers all nominations received for the honour.
The Secretary to the President, the Home Secretary, and four to six other distinguished individuals make up the Padma Awards Committee, which is chaired by the Cabinet Secretary.
In the end, the recommendations are reviewed and approved by India's President and Prime Minister.
Results made public
In honor of Republic Day, the results will be revealed in order to honor individuals for their "work of distinction," which consists of their outstanding contributions across all disciplines and fields.
Every year in March or April, Rashtrapati Bhawan hosts ceremonial occasions where the President of India bestows these Awards.
